Hey friends,
It’s me again! Coming out of Write of Passage, I gave myself the challenge to ship my newsletter every Monday (Ps. Last Friday was a special edition for my small bets challenge).
Reflecting on why I fell off my publishing routine between March & October, a huge reason is that I didn’t set a constraint for how complete my writing should be. I ended up just rambling and started drafts but never published them. So the goal for the following months is SHIP! (Speed over perfection, as one of my WOP friend would say)
So it’s 9:35 pm, I have 25 mins till Freedom App blocks me from all internet access.
Let’s do this!
Paying For my Freedom- WORTH IT!
I’d struggled with chaotic work hours after I became self-employed. I got easily distracted by random tasks in the middle of the day, thinking I could always finish my work at the end of the day anyway.
The result is I can never fully rest when I do the chill tasks during the day, and I allow myself to work till midnight. I woke up feeling exhausted and burnt out the next day, which made me procrastinate on working and repeat another vicious cycle.
Things changed after I started using the Freedom App. It’s an app that allows you to set the duration of when you would like to stop using computer/ phone every day. For example, if I set my freedom session from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., at 10:01, all my chrome windows will turn into the screen below.
Sometimes the caption said, “ You are free. Go do something important.”
The first time I saw the screen pop up, I was blown away.
“Wait, what? Am I really forbidden to work now? This is SO AWESOME!”
Now I am forced to REST. My bedtime routine gets finished earlier. For the first time in my solopreneur journey, I feel like I can truly rest at night like a normal 9-5 person (That’s the part I missed the most about having a stable full-time job. A time that I can completely disassociate with work and live my own life).
I start to wake up earlier and feel energized. Because I feel rested the day before, I don’t resent working early in the morning. Also, knowing that my work time will get cut off at a certain time at night, I’m forced to be efficient at work, too.
I paid less than 30 bucks for an annual plan. I think it’s way worth the money. Highly recommend it!
Ok, that’s it for this week! And oh! My WOP friend John Nicolas and I are doing a one-month experiment for people who wants to practice drawing for writing. You are welcome to join our Slack channel :)
Yay I made it! Time to celebrate with some rest!
See ya!
